What Consoles Is GTA 6 On? Every Platform Explained
Published · GTA 6 Insider
GTA 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. It launches on both on November 19, 2026, including the PS5 Pro, the PS5 Digital Edition and the cheaper Xbox Series S. It is not coming to PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch 2, and there is no PC version announced yet.
Use the checklist below to see if the console you own can play it, then read on for how each machine is expected to handle it.

GTA 6 on PS5
Every PS5 model can play GTA 6 on day one. Sony has been promoting GTA 6 heavily, and its store page lists features for the DualSense controller, including vibration and trigger effects.
The PS5 Digital Edition works fine. Even the boxed version of GTA 6 contains a download code rather than a disc, so a missing disc drive makes no difference. The game installs from the internet on every console.
Sony also sells two limited-edition GTA 6 DualSense controllers, covered in our GTA 6 controller guide.
Is GTA 6 Better on PS5 Pro?
The PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, which means Rockstar is adding something for Sony's more powerful console. What that "something" is has not been announced. It could be higher resolution, sharper image quality, better ray tracing, steadier performance or a mix of these.
The bigger question for most players is frame rate. Reports from Rockstar's preview sessions describe a 30 frames-per-second target on consoles, and Rockstar has not confirmed a 60 fps mode on any machine, including the PS5 Pro. Leaks have pointed in different directions, so wait for the launch technical breakdowns before buying a PS5 Pro just for GTA 6.
GTA 6 on Xbox Series X and Series S
Both current Xbox consoles get GTA 6 on November 19. The Series X is the closest match to the PS5 in power, so expect the two to look and run similarly.
The Series S is fully supported, but it has less graphics power and memory, so expect a lower resolution and some visual cut-backs rather than a different game. Rockstar has not published Series S settings yet. We cover what is known in our GTA 6 on Xbox Series S guide.
Is GTA 6 on Game Pass?
Not as announced. Neither Rockstar nor Microsoft has said GTA 6 will join Xbox Game Pass, so plan to buy it outright from the Microsoft Store or a retailer, for $79.99 (Standard) or $99.99 (Ultimate). Our GTA 6 price guide compares the two editions.
Will GTA 6 Be on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. GTA 6 is built for the current generation only. PlayStation's own product pages state that it will not be available on PS4, and Rockstar has never announced an Xbox One version. GTA V came to PS3 and Xbox 360 first and later moved up a generation, but GTA 6 is going the other way: it skips the older consoles entirely.
If you are still on a PS4 or Xbox One, you will need a PS5 or Xbox Series console to play it.
Will GTA 6 Be on Nintendo Switch 2?
Not as announced. Rockstar has not revealed any plans for a Switch 2 version, and the game is not listed for any Nintendo console. An insider report has claimed a Switch 2 port could follow in 2027, but until Rockstar confirms it, treat that as a rumor. Rockstar has brought older games to Nintendo systems before, but usually years after their original release.
Is GTA 6 Coming to PC?
Not at launch, and no PC version has been announced. Rockstar has a habit of releasing on consoles first: GTA V reached PC about 19 months after its console launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 about a year after. Any "GTA 6 PC download" you see now is fake. Our GTA 6 PC release coverage tracks the latest signs.
Which Console Is Best for GTA 6?
- Best experience: PS5 Pro, the only console with announced enhancements for GTA 6.
- Best value: a standard PS5 or Xbox Series X. Both run the full game at the main console settings.
- Cheapest way in: Xbox Series S. It plays the same game, with lower visual quality.
- Playing with friends later: pick the same console family as your friends. GTA 6 launches without online play, and Rockstar has never offered crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox. See our GTA 6 Online and crossplay guide.
How Much Storage Does GTA 6 Need?
Rockstar has not announced the official size, but a widely shared report puts the PS5 download at about 210 GB. That is a big share of a base PS5's usable space, and even more of a Series S. Plan to free up around 250 GB before pre-loading starts on November 12, or add an expansion drive. Our GTA 6 file size guide will list the official number once it is out.
